Do you agree with my classmate discussion question below.

Classmate Question: Police unions are caused from employees being unhappy with the management and their practices. They do not like the way the department is run and they want to have things run differently. If the management allowed the officers to get involved in more decision making and operational planning then maybe there would be less unions being formed (Gaines & Worrall, 2011). In my opinion, with everything that is going on today, these are still very valid reasons. Some law enforcement officers in management positions are controlling with their power and overall do not treat their officers right. That is why I think police unions are totally necessary. It gives some power back to the officers that are actually out in the field risking their lives each day. They are experiencing everything on a daily basis and they are seeing what may need to be done to help improve the department. Now when they are not getting any say, the problems will not go away and the management will keep trying different plans that in the end will not help.
