Make 2 recommendations for improving school sport--think BIG. Assume you even have the power to cut it altogether and privatize, implement participation fees, implement mandatory participation--whatever you think is best. Please explain your changes and WHY you think they will improve interscholastic sport in the US.

1. The first change that I would implement would be to change the amount of funding in every division. I was born and raised in Texas, so I will be talking about high school in Texas, but the same model could be implemented across the country. In Texas, six different divisions start at 1A and go up to 6A schools. In 6A, there are a few power-hours football teams that we could talk about, but I will focus on Duncanville High School and Southlake Carroll. Duncanville High School played in the state championship game this past year vs. Houston North Shore High School. Duncanville High School would lose to Houston North Shore High School 17-10 (Chen, 2021). Southlake Carroll High School has won five state championships in football (District, 2022). When you compare these to schools, one of the first things I want to compare is their high school stadiums. Duncanville High School stadium was built in 1986 and has not had any major renovations to its stadium over the years (McSpadden, 2021). At the same time, the opposite can be said for Southlake Carroll High School. Southlake Carroll High School football stadium was built in 2001 and had renovations completed in 2010 (Zaleon, 2018). The Southlake Carroll High School football stadium cost 15.3 million dollars, while the renovations in 2010 cost 4.6 million dollars (Zaleon, 2018). At the same time, there are many different factors as to why the cost of each of these stadiums is not the same. My way to fix this is by saying that every school district in any division is required to operate off the same funding. I believe that this will make it more competitive between schools, including making sure that everyone is placed in the correct division. Just because one school can fund a multi-billion-dollar stadium and another does not, is that fair? If those schools can fund a multi-billion-dollar stadium, what else can they fund? These are the things that are not fair for many other high schools.
2. The second change that I would implement would be to bring funding back into the schools.

It is truly mind-blowing when we look at the money that cities and school districts put into their sports. Southlake Carroll High School football stadium cost 15.3 million dollars, Allen High School football stadium cost 60 million dollars, and Mckinney School district football stadium cost 69.9 million dollars (Zaleon, 2018) (Weiner, 2017) (News, 2018). While we are talking about millions of dollars a year over at least the next ten years in these cities to help fund these multi-million-dollar stadiums. Let's take a moment and think about how those millions of dollars could help the education of those cities. Imagine what high schools could look like if we spent that much money on those educational things. Imagen teachers come into every school year knowing that they do not have to purchase their supplies. If these cities can fund these million-dollar stadiums, why don't we take that money and place it into the schools that do not have the funds so students can have a proper place to attend school and learn. My proposal is for school districts to take 1/6th of each sporting department's budget and place it into a fund. This fund will then be required to go back into the school every year. If teams make it into the playoffs and receive extra money, they get a 1/6th cut and are placed back into the school again. When these funds go back into the school, they are mint for one thing educational benefits. Do you think that the proposal that I have come up with is too small or too big?
