Write a paragraph response to following post with substance .Debate the subject at an intellectual level.
The topic that I want to discuss with everyone this week is the sport of Formula One (F1) racing. This is a sport that has started taking off a few years ago. One of the reasons that F1 has started to gain so much attrition is the Netflix series Drive to Survive, which started streaming in 2019 (Netflix, n.d.). The Drive to Survive series now has four available seasons on Netflix while gaining more attraction each year (Netflix, n.d.). If you are not familiar with F1, there are only 20 total drivers that race. The driver's race for a particular team, and the teams are only allowed to have two main drivers. While each team does have backup drivers, those drivers are for emergencies only. The top teams in F1 are Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari (Sports, 2022).
While there are many talented drivers in F1, there is currently one battle that draws everyone's attention. That battle is between the Mercedes team and the Red Bull team. More importantly, Lewis Hamilton, who drives for Mercedes, and Max Verstappen, who drives for Red Bull (Barretto, 2021). There is also a significant battle between Toto Wolff, the Mercedes Team Principal, and CEO, and Christian Horner, the Red Bull Team Principle (Team Principal & CEO, n.d.) (Racing, 2022). The battle between the two teams has been going back and forth for a couple of years now, but it was taken to the next level during the 2021 racing season.
During the Italian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen would go into a corner where they would be racing very hard. They would end up crashing into each other and creating a lot of blame between the two drivers (Edmondson, 2021). The crash between the two drivers would see Max Verstappen Red Bull car land on top of Lewis Hamiltons Mercedes protective Halo (Edmondson, 2021). The collision between the two drivers would start a lot of conservancies between the two drivers.
One of the issues was how Max Verstappens rear tire would land on top of the protective Halo of Lewis Hamiltons car and how Max Verstappen would just walk away. He would not show any remorse for what happened between the two drivers. After the crash and upon further inspection, F1 would find that there was damage to Lewis Hamiltons helmet (Larkam, 2021). After the race, one of the other hot topics was the fact that Lewis Hamilton was not seriously injured and how well the protective Halo worked. After the race was over, Team Principal Toto Wolff talked about how the Halo works and even saved Lewis Hamiltons life (Larkam, 2021). If the Halo system was not placed on the car, there could have been a great chance that Lewis Hamilton could have died on the track that day.
Some of my takeaways from the crash between the two drivers was that Max Verstappen was at fault for the collision. I do not think that Max Verstappen wanted to crash his car into Lewis Hamilton or land on his Halo. I believe that Max Verstappen was driving aggressively and almost recklessly, but that is how he races. Max Verstappen would serve a three-place penalty moving into the next race following his crash with Lewis Hamilton. I believe that serving a three-place sentence was major for the Red Bull team and Max Verstappen. When looking at the crash, I think that one of the best things that came out of the collision was that the Halo system worked so well. This was a relatively new addition to the car a few years ago to help protect the drivers and provide them with some safety.
I will provide a link below of Max Verstappens car on top of Lewis Hamiltons car. Some of the questions for everyone it was Max Verstappen wrong for not even checking in on Lewis Hamilton? While I believe that most of us have been indifferent to competition or high-stress points in our lives, what would you have done in that position? Do you think that F1 is doing everything they can to protect the divers? And lastly, do you feel that the penalty for Max Verstappen was severe enough?
