Write a paragraph response to following post with substance .Debate the subject at an intellectual level.
I choose to speak on the educational integrity of sport within a higher educational setting. Modern day student-athletes enjoy the new addition of NIL (name in likeness) sent down by the NCAA. This new rule allows student-athletes to benefit financially from their name and likeness in most ways. Players like Bryce Young, Alabama quarterback, signed deals that granted him funds that surpassed a million dollars. Instances like these have proved that the world of collegiate athletics is changing, damaging what it means to be a student-athlete along the way. In recent history, it is well known that student-athletes, especially stars, are held to a much lower standard than typical college students within that same university. Whether the tests are made easier, tests not required at all, and even a general exemption from attending class at all. These things influence what it means to be a student-athlete. It begins to enter the realm of a semi-pro athlete if classes are not attended or if the classes are molded a specific way to allow players to pass and graduate much easier compared to other degree paths. It is already substantial that football and men's basketball athletes receive full scholarships and benefits. This includes housing, tuition, extravagant amounts of food, personal advisors and counselors, travel, top-tier coaching and training, etc. On top of this, players are now able to receive monetary compensation to go along with the investment universities have already made. By doing this, it is creating an environment that perpetrates playing sports over any academic pursuit at all. Sure, there are student-athletes that take their academic careers seriously, but many are only present to play sports. In 2012, former Florida basketball standout, Joakim Noah, was quoted saying he never attended classes during Florida's championship run(s), and neither did the other star players. This opened up questions that were already know at the time, but most just did not speak about. The Zimbalist belief covers the payment of name and likeness, and even possible payment from the university itself. This idea has become extremely popular, especially among young demographics. The gradual decline of an academic focus in college athletics will destroy whatever foundation is left if new rules are not put in place to force student-athletes to adhere to the same academic expectations and standards as every other student. Otherwise, this ignorance creates an atmosphere that turns a blind eye to corruption and special treatment, while simultaneously having a sport environment where student-athletes are treating like semi-professional athletes, rather than college students. A line must be drawn and used to distinguish what exactly is the future of college athletics and what road is the NCAA and universities willing to take in order to preserve or forever change what college athletics is.
