Do you agree with my classmate discussion question below.

Classmate 1 Question: I actually do believe that the scare straight approach was effective towards white collar crime as well as conventional crime. The reason for my theory is based off the fact that with the scare straight approach it provides change in action for participants. This program is well known for giving participants first hand experience of the life in prison. It may not help change everyone but it certainly does make changes in others.

Classmate 2 Question: I believe the "scared straight" tactic would be effective because as we have learned in previous lectures, white collar crime is usually done by educated, family men, with a decent income. It is also seen as non violent crime. This tactic reminds them what is waiting for them should they get caught. It shows them it is not worth it. Prison is not an easy place, there is gangs, violence, and drugs. All settings a white collar criminal is not necessarily used to so this makes them forget the consequences should they get caught. I do think a white collar offender should be allowed to benefit from his/her experience. It can potentially stop people from committing white-collar in the first place. If they are making money from it I believe it is ok because finding a job after prison is not always easy. If they can make a profit and teach people about the dangers and consequences of white collar crime I say let them. They've already done their time in prison theirs not need to pay for it once their sentencing is up.
