For your assignment this week, I want you to write a persuasive message. Actually, I want you to write it twice.
Here is the situation:
You want to persuade your boss and your boss's boss that the department needs to be reorganized. The current organization was put in place many years ago by Charlie who was your boss's mentor and the big boss's friend. Sadly, Charlie passed away two years ago.
The organization structure of the department worked well until recently when the company significantly expanded the territory it serves.
You have a plan in mind that you think would work and you would like an opportunity to present it to your boss and his boss. As you write the memo, be sure to consider the AIDA model, the 3 types of persuasive appeals and the 3 common modes of logical persuasion. Really, the entirety of chapter 12 will help you write a good persuasive message.
You will present the details in the presentation, if you get a chance to give it, but this memo will explain why the current structure doesn't work and why yours will. Remember who your audience is!
Write it first with an emphasis on an emotional appeal, then a second time with an emphasis on a logical appeal.
Each is worth 25 points. I expect these memos to be 100% free from grammatical, usage, punctuation and spelling errors. If I find more than 3, no points will be awarded for the submission.
Of course content matters. Use the information you learned from chapter 12 and make these memos persuade us to give you the opportunity to present!
For length, I would estimate that you'll have 3 or 4 paragraphs. No less than 3 and no more than 5. Don't forget that a paragraph generally has between 3 and 5 sentences.
Good luck and have fun!
