• In the assignment you are to develop a job evaluation system for Eastern Provincial University (pages 468-478; and then apply your system to the different jobs, and from this develop a single hierarchy of jobs for pay purposes.
• To undertake the work, consider the following steps: (a) identify the compensable factors for the system, including some from each of the four categories of skill, effort, responsibility and working conditions, (b) scale these factors using the example in Table 8.1 as a guide (make adjustments that make sense for you), (c) weight the factors, and then develop a rating chart formatted more or less as shown in Figure 8.1, with adjustments, and (d) apply your system to arrive at a total point value for each position, and then arrange the positions in order of total points (the job hierarchy), the highest point total at the top on down, using Table 8.2 as a guide for formatting.
• Submit these documents. With them, provide some commentary about the nature of the hierarchy, the process you used to arrive at your conclusions and some of the more difficult decisions you had to make.
