When Covid was in full action, I would agree to limit the number of visitors in the hospital or facilities to limit the spread and chance of getting Covid. If the patient is having a baby or if the patient were close to passing, I would think to allow there to be 1-2 visitors as well, just so the patient has the emotional support and has close loved ones there for the happy and/or sad moments. During Covid, there were (probably still are) family members zooming in or dialing into one big FaceTime call so family would still be able to see and communicate with their loved ones without being there in person. This week's topic has been very informative and taught me more about patient rights. For example, something that I learned is that patients have the right to present complaints and grievances and expect a response intended to resolve the complaints. During the pandemic I could imagine patients wanting to see their family and loved ones but could not. So, many patients have complained about this and hospitals/other facilities found a way for that to happen. They would allow a spouse or close relative to visit. Another way was allowing video calls with family members so they would feel their company in spirit. Staff members were also given surveys to take so they could know how they feel about this and develop a revised plan for the patient visits when cases go down. I do think only allowing a few family members to visit at a time is a little harsh, but it is to the safety of others and ones self, and that is important. I do also think though it could affect the patients mental health, being stuck in the hospital with only one family member visiting, and early into the pandemic, no family members could visit at certain facilities. It could be difficult for the patients not receiving the support they need from their loved ones in the moments needed.
