Reply to this post agree or disagree and explain why
If we think back to the days when these products were new and we all had to have them, I think how fun it was to get the new technology and what was to come! It is no secret that Japanese companies are the world leaders in the production of compact disc players, video cameras, laptop computers, fax machines, photocopiers, cell phones etc. Consumer electronics account for a third of Japan's economic output. In today's marketplace products like computers are made up of components that are often produced or assembled in a dozen or more countries. Japanese companies are finding it hard to compete against lower-priced rivals from countries such as South Korea and China. Competition has become so fierce in the electronic industry.
"Japanese electronics companies no longer dominate their fields as they once did. They suffer from high production costs, increased competition
from abroad and being too heavily diversified, making everything from chips to submarine cables. Japanese electronics companies got their butts kicked by Taiwan in the flat-panel display market and by South Korea in the memory chip market." (Facts and details)
When we look at our textbook it is very clear that the Japanese should follow some ofKotter's steps for implementing change. Here what would be the most important would be to establish a sense of urgency by creating a compelling reason for why change is needed. Motivate their employees through communication of the vision of the organization. Another would be empowering others to act by removing barriers, encouraging risk taking and be creative with problem solving. (Pg. 612, Exhibit 18-5, Robbins & Judge)
